CINCINNATI - The office of Student-Athlete Support Services (SASS) held a graduation celebration for 72 University of Cincinnati student-athletes Tuesday, April 30, inside the Richard E. Lindner Center as each of the individuals on hand received their graduation stoles and were recognized by the Department of Athletics. The Class of 2019 featured 70 student-athletes that will earn their diplomas this weekend inside Fifth Third Arena.
Five of the graduates have attained their Master's degrees, including three track & field student-athletes and two football players. The track & field individuals earning those Master's include 2017 NCAA Champion (indoor weight throw) Annette Echikunwoke, two-time NCAA runner-up (high jump) Loretta Blaut and Leah Heckaman while the football players include Kevin Mouhon and Kyle Trout.
The women's track & field and cross country program has the largest number of graduates this Spring as 15 women are set to earn their degrees with football graduating eight. Both baseball and women's soccer will see seven graduate while women's swimming & diving with graduate five. Teams that are seeing three of their members graduate include men's and women's basketball, lacrosse and the two-time AAC champion men's swimming & diving team. Rounding out the teams represented are four squads with two graduates each, including, both men's and women's golf, men's soccer and volleyball, with tennis having one graduate.
Fifth Third Arena will host three days of commencement activities starting Thursday, May 2, with the Doctoral Hooding & Master's Recognition Ceremony (2 p.m.). Friday, two undergraduate ceremonies will be held with the first starting at 9 a.m. and the second at 2 p.m. Finally, Saturday's final undergraduate ceremony will take place at 9 a.m. For more information on the event, visit UC.edu/commencement.
