TicketsCINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati women's basketball head coach Michelle Clark-Heard announced Tuesday the addition of Jalynn McClain as assistant to the head coach.
"I am happy to have Jalynn join our staff," said Clark-Heard. "She is a former player who brings an amazing winning mentality to my program. She was a part of building a championship culture at Western Kentucky (WKU) as a player and understands my expectations for greatness. I look forward to her helping my staff and I mentor and lead these young ladies."
McClain comes to UC after spending the past year as an Assistant Athletic Academic Advisor with University of Memphis Athletic Academic Services. Previously, she served as a Graduate Student Advisor with the WKU Academic Advising Retention Center. A former student-athlete, McClain was coached by Clark-Heard at WKU from 2012-16, starting 75 games and totaling 535 points and 385 rebounds at the forward position.
In her role at Memphis, the Indiana native mentored at-risk and high-achieving football and Olympic sport student-athletes. She would meet with student-athletes daily or weekly to track academic progress and provide strategies for academic success. Working at WKU, McClain facilitated weekly workshop series to provide strategies to students on how to master skills such as test taking, time management, and effective study skills.
McClain earned two degrees from WKU – a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies with an emphasis in business, and a master's degree in recreation & sports administration with a concentration in intercollegiate athletic administration.
A standout at Jeffersonville High School, she was named one of Hoosier Basketball Magazine's top 60 seniors and earned Associated Press honorable mention all-state recognition in 2012.
"I am extremely grateful to have the opportunity to work under coach Clark-Heard's leadership and to be able to collaborate with the rest of the staff," said McClain. "Coach Clark-Heard has started a winning tradition at UC and I am excited to be a part of it. As a former player, coach Clark-Heard made an impact on my life and helped me develop into the person I am now. Having the opportunity to work with her will allow me to pay it forward and impact other student-athlete's lives. I look forward to joining the Bearcats family!"
