Women’s Basketball Announces Additions of Gritzali, Khalifa, & Niang to Roster

CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati women's basketball head coach Michelle Clark-Heard announced Thursday the additions of Sofia Gritzali (Thessaloniki, Greece/Hellenic College of Thessaloniki), Nesma Khalifa (Alexandria, Egypt/KGC Kawmya Girls College/Tallahassee CC), and Arame Niang (Rufisque, Senegal/Kansai Gaidai University/Western Kentucky) to the 2019-20 roster.

CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati women's basketball head coach Michelle Clark-Heard announced Thursday the additions of Sofia Gritzali (Thessaloniki, Greece/Hellenic College of Thessaloniki), Nesma Khalifa (Alexandria, Egypt/KGC Kawmya Girls College/Tallahassee CC), and Arame Niang (Rufisque, Senegal/Kansai Gaidai University/Western Kentucky) to the 2019-20 roster. 

"I am excited to announce the additions of Sofia, Nesma, and Arame to our Bearcats family," said Clark-Heard. "They each bring a different dimension and international playing experience to our program. All three players are versatile and can play multiple positions, which will allow each to be successful in my system. Their skillsets complement the players currently on our roster and I look forward to them adding to our depth."

Sofia Gritzali | 5-6 | G | Thessaloniki, Greece/Hellenic College of Thessaloniki
Leading scorer for her team throughout her high school career … Guided Hellenic College of Thessaloniki to three-straight northern Greece championships, two national high school championship runner-up finishes, and a national title as a junior … Part of multiple championship teams at the club level with Aris Basketballl Club of the northern Greek league where she was the leading scorer four-consecutive years and set all time and single-game (59 points) scoring records … Member of the Greek national team the last three years … Represented Greece with the national high school team at the world high school championship in 2019.
 
Nesma Khalifa | 6-4 | C | Alexandria, Egypt/KGC Kawmya Girls College/Tallahassee CC
Played in 25 games, with eight starts, as a freshman at Tallahassee Community College … Tallied 11 points and pulled down eight rebounds vs. Frederick Community College … Totaled a season-best 13 points vs. Hostos Community College … Competed with the Egyptian National Team as part of the FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup … Named all-academic by both the Florida College System Activities Association and the Panhandle Conference. 
 
Arame Niang | 6-3 | F | Rufisque, Senegal/Kansai Gaidai University/Western Kentucky
Played in 33 games for the Hilltoppers in 2018-19 … Averaged 5.7 points and 3.6 rebounds in 15.3 minutes per game … Scored 12 points and grabbed three rebounds in the season opener at Oklahoma … Had a season-best performance of 15 points and 13 rebounds vs. Morgan State … Sat out the 2017-18 season at WKU to satisfy NCAA requirements after transferring from Kansai Gaidai University in Hirakata, Japan.
