CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati track & field team returned to Kentucky Friday as the Bearcats faced strong competition in the first day of action at the 2020 Rod McCravy Memorial Meet held inside the Nutter Field House. On the day, 11 marks were recorded that rank among the all-time Top 10 in program history with the women collecting six and the men five.

// MULTI MARKS
The day opened with the pentathlon getting underway, a five-part event that Katie Straus would place third in overall with a score of 3,633 points. To get to that total, Straus scored well across the board all day with her time of 8.83 in the opening 60m hurdles scoring her 946 points and moving her up the program's heptathlon hurdles Top 10 to #5.

Two more marks came in the pentathlon with both being registered with a single clearance in the high jump by freshman Taylor Beard. In the event, the rookie cleared a best of 1.69m (5-06.50) to not only score 842 points, but also post a clearance that ranks tied for #10 all-time in UC history and fourth-best among women in the pentathlon. Beard, who competed in her first pentathlon, scored 3,369 points to place sixth overall.

// BERTHENET SHINING
Damien Berthenet took part in his first heptathlon of the season and walked away from the first day of action in second place overall as he recorded three marks good enough for the program's Top 10. His Day One score of 3,028 points ranks as the #3 score in program history and makes him just the third UC man to score over 3,000 points in the first four events, joining current volunteer coach Alex Bloom (3,299) and current coach Chris Wineberg (3,060). Berthenet opened the day in the 60m dash where he ran 7.28 to post the #6 heptathlon time in program history. His final big mark came in the shot put as he posted a mark of 13.53m (44-04.75) to move up to #2 on the heptathlon Top 10 with only Coach Wineberg ahead of him at 13.74m.

// MORE TOP MARKS
Three more women and two men recorded marks in the program's all-time Top 10, including two on the track and three total in the field. On the track, Caisja Chandler raced to a time of 7.43 in the 60m dash to finish fourth overall and earn a berth into tomorrow's semifinal round. She also took 0.01 seconds off her PR and moved up into a tie with Tiona Lattimore for the #2 time in program history. In the same event, Anthony Woods raced to a PR of 6.84 to qualify to the seminfinal after posting a time that ties for #7 all-time in program history (Dayo Igeleke, 2009).

In the long jump, Irati Mitxelena posted a best of 5.94m (19-06.00) on the day to finish fourth in the meet while posting a season-best leap. Her mark tied her personal best and her own #4 ranking on the program's all-time Top 10. In the pole vault, Rachel Coghill continued to improve once again this week as she cleared a personal-best height of 3.90m (12-09.50) before almost clearing 4.00m later in the meet. With her top clearance of the day, Coghill moved up into a tie for #9 all-time at UC with current teammate Lily Bunse.

The final all-time Top 10 mark came in the men's weight throw as Danny Jones sent the 35-pound ball out to 17.27m (56-08.00), which is good enough to add his name to the all-time Top 10 for the first time in his career. He is currently ranked #7 all-time.
