PROVIDENCE, R.I. - University of Cincinnati track and field senior Damien Berthenet was named the American Athletic Conference Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 26, 2020, the league office announced.

Berthenet was the top collegiate finisher in the heptathlon at the Rod McCravy Memorial in Lexington, Kentucky. He scored 5,502 points in the competition, the top heptathlon score in The American and the third-highest NCAA output in the event this season.

MCCRAVY DAY TWO RECAP
The two-day, seven-event heptathlon came to a close early Saturday with Berthenet finishing second overall and first among collegiate entrants as the senior accumulated 5,502 points for the #3 score all-time at UC. Berthenet, who moved into the overall lead in the American, became just the third UC man to score 5,500 or more in the indoor event, joining current volunteer coach Alex Bloom (5,659) and current event coach Chris Wineberg (5,616) in that grouping.

On the day, Berthenet opened with a time of 8.49 in the 60m hurdles for 862 points before moving on to the pole vault where he cleared 4.60m (15-01.00) for another 790 points. That clearance, his best of the year, ranks #5 on the program's all-time heptathlon Top 10 list. In the final event, the Frenchman ran 2:44.72 in the 1,000m run for 822 points, turning in the #4 time in UC heptathlon history. Overall, he scored 2,474 points on Day Two, the #4 total in program history.

MCCRAVY DAY ONE RECAP
Berthenet took part in his first heptathlon of the season and walked away from the first day of action in second place overall as he recorded three marks good enough for the program's Top 10. His Day One score of 3,028 points ranks as the #3 score in program history and makes him just the third UC man to score over 3,000 points in the first four events, joining current volunteer coach Alex Bloom (3,299) and current coach Chris Wineberg (3,060). Berthenet opened the day in the 60m dash where he ran 7.28 to post the #6 heptathlon time in program history. His final big mark came in the shot put as he posted a mark of 13.53m (44-04.75) to move up to #2 on the heptathlon Top 10 with only Coach Wineberg ahead of him at 13.74m.
