The University of Cincinnati tennis team is set to play host to its first home match of the 2020 spring slate as the Bearcats will welcome Miami (Ohio) to the indoor courts at the Western Tennis & Fitness Club Friday at 5 p.m., for the first of 10 home duals scheduled for this year. Following the match, the Bearcats will return to the road Sunday as they will venture to Miamisburg to face host Dayton in a 10 a.m. contest at the South Regency Tennis Center.

• Cincinnati enters the weekend with a 2-1 overall record after winning its first two duals of the year before falling at Kentucky, 5-2, on the road last week
• Despite the loss to UK, the Bearcats secured their first point ever against the Wildcats as both Emma Miceli (#4) and Maria Santilli (#6) both won singles matches
• UC opened the year 2-0 after wins vs. Army (7-0) and Akron (5-2), the best start since also opening 2-0 in the 2016-17 season

// HOME OPENERS
Since the start of the 1991-92 season, the Bearcats have posted a 17-11 record in their first home dual of the season and have won the past four in a row after dropping the previous four in a row. The last time UC dropped its home opener came in the 2014-15 campaign in a 5-2 set back to Indiana. Since then, UC has defeated Liberty (5-2, 1/23/16), IUPUI (7-0, 1/20/17), Wright State (6-1, 1/20/18) and Butler (7-0, 1/18/19).
// SCOUTING: MIAMI (OHIO)
The RedHawks enter the weekend with a 1-3 record having defeating Florida Golf Coast (6-1) in the season opener before falling in its last three in a row. Recently, their doubles team of Ramasamy and Rico won their #1 match against Purdue to earn MAC Doubles Team of the Week honors.

The Flyers enter the weekend in search of their first win of 2020 as they currently hold a record of 0-4 on the year, including 0-3 at home. So far this year, Dayton has fallen on the road to Xavier (6-1) with home losses to Northern Kentucky (6-1), Marshall (7-0) and Butler (4-3).

In the five years Toth has guided the program, his Bearcats hold a 17-8 overall record Ohio schools. After starting 3-6 in his first two seasons, Cincinnati has gone 14-2 over the past three-plus years against the Buckeye State, starting with an 8-0 run after going 5-0 in 2016-17 and 4-1 in 2017-18. Last year, UC won its first four intrastate meetings before falling at Xavier, 4-3.

Two more home matches await the Bearcats next week as both IUPUI and Western Michigan come to town. First, UC will play host to the Jaguars in a 5 p.m. contest Friday, February 7, before taking on the Broncos Saturday, February 8, at 1:30 p.m. Both duals will be played at Western Tennis & Fitness Club.
