Women’s Basketball Adds Milan Schimmel

The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team has added Milan Schimmel to its 2020 recruiting class, Head Coach Michelle Clark-Heard announced today.

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team has added Milan Schimmel to its 2020 recruiting class, Head Coach Michelle Clark-Heard announced today. Schimmel, who will have two years of eligibility with the Bearcats, comes to UC after playing her sophomore season at Eastern Florida State College last year.
 
"I am excited to announce the final piece to our 2020 recruiting class," Clark-Heard said. "Milan is a versatile guard that has the ability to play multiple positions in our system. She is able to score in a variety of ways and brings great experience to our teams as we continue to build a championship culture."

Comes to Cincinnati after playing one year each at both Eastern Florida State College and Hutchinson Community College... will have two years of eligibility with the Bearcats... at EFSC, started all 30 games played during the 2019-20 season in which the team posted a 23-7 record... averaged 14.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.5 steals per game... recorded five double-doubles while scoring over 10 points 25 times and reaching 20 or more points four times... dropped a career-high 25 points at Northwest Florida State College while recording a career-best 18 rebounds at Hillsborough CC... in her one season at HCC (2018-19), helped her team to the NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Final Four as the #13 seed in the tournament... team fell in the semifinals (60-45) to the eventual national runner up New Mexico JC... started eight of the 37 games she played... averaged 6.7 points, 3,8 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.4 steals per game as the team wen 33-4... graduated from Nixyaawii (pronounced nick-OW-wee) Community School on the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indiana Reservation near Pendleton, Ore. ... helped her team to a state runner-up finish as a senior.

Schimmel is the sixth member of the signing class with all six eligible to play immediately in the 2020-21 season with three coming from the junior college ranks and three from high school. Schimmel, Destiny Haymer (Jones College) and Caitlyn Wilson (Chipola JC) come to Cincinnati after playing their 2019-20 seasons in the junior college ranks while the remaining three players in the class are nearing the completion of their senior years in high school and include Riane Burton (Cypress, Texas/Cypress Ranch HS), Caitlin Elseser (Findlay, Ohio/Liberty-Benton HS) and local product Jillian Hayes (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland HS).
 
"While we lose a great deal with Sam Rodgers, Antoinette Miller, Angel Rizor and Florence Sifa completing their careers here at UC, my staff and I have compiled a versatile and talented class that is ready for the challenges ahead," Clark-Heard said. "The additions of Jillian, Caitlin, Riane, Destiny, Caitlyn and Milan, as well as Arame Niang returning to the floor for her senior year of eligibility, coupled with our returners, has this program ready for continued growth and excellence."
