CINCINNATI – The NCAA today announced its latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) with the University of Cincinnati continuing to excel as the Bearcats recorded their highest APR for the fourth year in a row, this time scoring 991in the latest multi-year rate. Previously, UC set records with APRs of 986 (2015-16), 988 (2016-17) and 990 (2017-18) before achieving the 991 score for the 2018-19 period.

The record performance comes one week after the NCAA announced another record for the Bearcats as six squads earned NCAA Public Recognition Awards for scoring among the Top 10 percent of their respective sports. Those honored programs included Football, Men's Basketball, Men's Cross Country, Women's Soccer, Women's Swimming/Diving and Volleyball. Of those teams, Football, Women's Soccer and Women's Swimming/Diving each earned their first NCAA Public Recognition Award.

"APR is a measure that shows the comprehensive approach to supporting our student-athletes by the athletics department," Dr. Joe Luckey, Sr. Associate AD for Student-Athlete Support Services (SASS), said. "It is a commitment by our coaches to recruit and retain the student-athletes, it is a commitment by our SASS staff to provide the most effective academic support, and it is a commitment by all staff who work with our student-athletes. We want our Bearcats to have the highest level of success on and off the field. The APR rates, which in fact are the highest multi-year rates ever recorded at UC, demonstrate this success."

All told, six programs posted improved scores from last year's release with Football making the biggest leap, adding seven points to its score to 990. Both Women's Soccer (+2) and Women's Swimming & Diving (+5) tallied perfect 1,000 scores while both Men's Basketball (995) and Lacrosse (997) each rose six points. Women's Cross Country was the sixth program to improve, rising two points to 993. Additionally, four programs held steady by matching their scores from one year ago, including perfect 1,000 scores from both Men's Cross Country and Volleyball while Women's Basketball and Baseball remained the same with scores of 991 and 990, respectively.

Along with perfect scores from Men's Cross Country, Women's Soccer, Women's Swimming & Diving and Volleyball, eight other programs posted scores of at least 991, including Men's Basketball (995), Women's Basketball (991), Women's Cross Country (993), Men's Golf (994), Women's Golf (993), Lacrosse (997), Tennis (992) and Women's Track & Field (992).

Implemented in 2003 as part of an ambitious academic reform effort in NCAA Division I, APR holds institutions accountable for the academic progress of their student-athletes through a team-based metric that accounts for the eligibility and retention of each student-athlete for each academic term.
