CINCINNATI – The American Athletic Conference today announced its pairings for the 2020-21 women's basketball season as the University of Cincinnati program will once again face league teams in 16 games. With the departure of UConn, the 11 teams in the conference will each play six foes home and away while playing two teams at home only and two away.
The Bearcats will play home and away contests against UCF, ECU, Memphis, SMU, Temple and Tulsa (12 games total) with single games against USF and Wichita State at home and both Houston and Tulane on the road. The complete matchups, including dates and times for each game, along with information on the 2021 American Women's Basketball Championship dates and location, will be released at a later date by the American.
Cincinnati is coming off a shortened season in which it posted a 22-10 overall record and finished tied for second with UCF in the league standings with an 11-5 record. As the three-seed in the American Women's Basketball Championships, the Bearcats played their way to the tournament final for the first time in 17 years. The COVID19 global pandemic took hold of the nation one week later and canceled the remainder of the season with no postseason berths announced.
Despite the shortened season, the Bearcats posted back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time since the 2000-01, 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons with IImar'I Thomas and Antoinette Miller both being named WBCA All-America Honorable Mention, the second and third accolade earned in program history and the first since 2003 (Debbie Merrill). Thomas returns this season as one of two seniors with she and Arame Niang (sat out 2019-20 after transferring in from Western Kentucky) looking to lead the Bearcats to a third-consecutive 20-win campaign and a return to the postseason.
Once complete, the full schedule will be announced on GoBearcats.com for the 2020-21 season. Ticket information, including season and single-game ticket packages, also will be announced in the coming weeks.
