CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati track and field team is off to Columbia, South Carolina this weekend where they will take place in the South Carolina Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 5-6, 2021. The meet will be hosted by South Carolina University with events kicking off Friday at 9:30 a.m. ET starting with the women's Pentathlon 60m hurtles. Saturday's events will begin at 9:00 a.m. with the men's Heptathlon 60m Hurdles.
UC leaves for South Carolina with confidence, coming off another successful weekend. Most recently at the H-Town SpeedCity Series. This included nine event wins and weekly accolades for three of its athletes, being awarded the AAC Track and Field Athletes of the Week.
NOTABLE WOMEN
The AAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week, Taylor Beard, now sits atop the American Athletic Conference in High Jump and No. 5 in the NCAA. Beard claimed the women's high jump title for the second meet in a row, besting her previous mark at the McCravy Green Invitational with a new personal best of 1.83m (6-0), moving her up the UC record books to the fourth best mark all time. She leads the AAC by 13cm, this lead is the same distance the separates the No. 2 and No. 13 spots.
Speaking of repeat winners, Malin Smith and Rachel Coghill went back to work claiming wins in the Shot put and pole vault, respectively.
Smith was able to claim her second win of the season at the H-Town SpeedCity Series in women's shot put, with a mark of 15.63.
Coghill cleared 3.80m (12-5.5) in the women's pole vault, just shy of her record setting performance at the McCravy Green Invitational earlier in the season, with a mark of 4.00m (13-1.5). This is both a new personal best and placed her in the No. 7 spot all time in women's pole vault at UC.
AAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week, Caisja Chandler, had a dominating performance at the H-Town Speed City Series this past weekend. Chandler claimed a first-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.83, while placing second in the 60-meter dash with a clocking of 7.46.
Chandler, the school record holder in both events, now owns eight of the top 10 spots on UC's all-time chart in the 200-meter, and five of the top 10 in the 60m dash. Chandler sits atop the AAC in the 200-meters and holds the No. 2 spot in the 60-meters, just .02 off the No. 1 spot.

His season-best clocking put him atop the AAC rankings and moved him up to No. 14 nationally. Borzor also holds the AAC's top spot in the 400-meter dash and the No. 6 spot in the 60-meter dash.
Redshirt Freshman Matt Hoak secured a first and second place spot in his events. Hoak got his first collegiate win in the 800 meters with a personal best time of 1:59.25. He continued to break his personal record in the men's mile with a time of 4:16.32, just beating out his previous best set earlier in the season at 4:16.76.
