CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team closed the game on an 8-0 run but it wasn't enough as the Bearcats fell to Houston, 75-66, on senior day inside Fifth Third Arena Saturday.
UC (4-15, 3-12 AAC) honored seniors Addaya Moore and IImar'I Thomas following the game. Thomas finished with a team-high 16 points, 6 rebounds, three blocks, two steals and two assists. Moore has been limited to only four games this season due to injury.
Houston (13-5, 10-4 AAC) won its fifth-straight game behind the efforts of Dymond Gladney and Miya Crump, who combined for 41 of the Cougars 75 points. Gladney had a season-high 23 points while Crump added 18 and a team-best eight rebounds.
UC trailed by 14 midway through the second quarter and closed the half on a 4:09, 16-6 run, making the margin 39-35 Cougars at the break.
UH steadily increased its lead in the third quarter, eventually pulling out to a 19-point advantage, 62-43, with 2:11 left. The fourth quarter was more of the same until the Bearcats closing run pulled things within single digits at the buzzer.
UC's Caitlyn Wilson continued her torrid scoring pace of late with 14 points and four three-pointers made. Wilson has scored 14 or more points in five of the last six games, including three 20-point contests. She has hit 24 triples during the stretch.
Jillian Hayes added 11 points and four rebounds, Arame Niang pulled town a team-best eight boards, Jadyn Scott poured in 11 and Milan Schimmel dished out five assists.
SENIOR DAY HONORS
Moore transferred into the UC women's basketball program prior to the 2018-19 season and was a part of two 20-win seasons with the Bearcats. She has missed most of this season due to injury. She started 12 games a year ago and posted eight points and six rebounds against Memphis in the quarterfinals of the AAC Tournament. An interdisciplinary studies major, Moore has numerous academic accolades including Bearcats Honor Roll, Dean's List and AAC All-Academic Team selection.
Thomas has been honored by the AAC every season of her career from Freshman of the Year recognition to First Team All-AAC accolades to Co-Preseason Player of the Year honors. She has helped lead UC to a pair of 20-win seasons and an appearance in the AAC Tournament championship game last season. Thomas is one of only three players in program history to achieve 1,700 career points and 800 career rebounds. She is a Senior CLASS Award candidate and semifinalist for the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award. A sports administration major, Thomas has earned multiple academic honors as a Bearcat, including Bearcats Honor Roll, Dean's List and AAC All-Academic Team selection.
