TicketsCINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati baseball team broke up Xavier LHP Trevor Olson's perfect game, shutout and no-hit bid in the seventh inning but couldn't complete the comeback, dropping the series opener, 2-1, in nonconference action Friday at UC Baseball Stadium.
Cincinnati (6-8) saw its 10-game home-winning streak come to an end as UC's first 18 batters were sat down in order before Eric Santiago sent a 1-1 pitch over the fence in left field to pull the Bearcats within a run. The Bearcats had a runner aboard in each of the final three innings but came up a little bit short.
Olson picked up the win, going seven innings, striking out seven and giving up a run on three hits. Trey Schramm gave up a walk and struck out three in the two innings of work to pick up the save.
Evan Shawver took his first loss of the year and fell to 2-1 on the season. He gave up a one-out, solo, home run in the top of the second and the Musketeers added an insurance run with a two-out single up the middle. Shawver tallied his fourth-straight quality start, going 6.0 innings, giving up one earned run on two hits with three strikeouts and a walk.

The series continues tomorrow at 2 p.m. ET across town at Hayden Field. UC LHP Dean McCarthy (0-1, 6.63) squares off against XU LHP Nick Zwack (1-0, 1.06) in the Musketeers home opener.
