CINCINNATI – Originally announced on March 10, University of Cincinnati swimmer Blake Hanna is slated to compete in his NCAA Championship debut where he will be representing the Bearcats swim and dive program in the 200 back and is currently seeded 16th, while also qualifying for the 200 IM and 100 back. The NCAA Men's DI Swimming and Diving Championship is set for March 24-27 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina.
THE BREAKDOWN
Since joining the team in 2018 Hanna has broken his own school record on nine separate occasions in the 200 back and currently sits atop the UC Record book with a time of 1:40.96 which he posted just last week at the Louisville Men's Invitational, shattering his own pervious school record of 1:42.43. With this time Hanna has earned his spot in the NCAA Championship.
Hanna is no stranger to performing on the big stage, competing in the 2021 AAC Swimming and Diving Championship earlier this season. Hanna not only won two of his three solo events in the 200 back and 100 back, but also continued to break his own school records, posting personal best times 1:42.43 (200 back) and 46.32 (100 back).
Alongside his teammates Dominic Polling, Michael Balcerak, and Hunter Gubeno, Hanna posted another personal best in the 50 back with a split time of 21.53, assisting the men's 200 medley relay team in taking home the first-place crown after touching the wall with a clocking of 1:25.54 at the AAC Championship, enough for another school record, conference record, and pool record.
STANDING STRONG
Hanna is currently ranked 16th in the NCAA with his 200 back (1:40.96) performance at the Louisville Men's Invitational. Throughout his dominating season, Hanna has also projected himself into the No.1 slotting in the AAC with a point total of 826.30.
