TicketsCINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati tennis team was bested 7-0 by the University of Memphis Friday afternoon at the Trabert-Talbert Tennis Center, as the Bearcats conclude their final regular season American Athletic Conference matchup of the year.
The Bearcats (3-8, 0-4 AAC) gave up the early doubles point after Memphis (5-11,1-2 AAC) secured the 6-3 victory against the doubles team of Alexia Coutino and Cassie Mclay to start the match.
THE BREAKDOWN
The Tigers got out to an early 3-0 advantage over the Bearcats after claiming the first two singles matches on a 2-0 set sweep.
Cincinnati pushed back with the remaining four matches going into a third-set decision.
Ioana Guna dropped early in the first set 6-0, where she rallied in the second claiming a 6-4 victory. Guna fought through the third set when a last-minute push by the Tiger's Sophie Abrams awarded her the match on a 7-5 third set victory.
Next door on court two, Cassie McLay was looking for her second win of the season coming off Wednesday's dominate performance. McLay took the first set 6-3 while dropping the second 6-1, forcing a third set. The set remained even through six when Aran Teixido Garcia edged out another point over McLay, taking the third set on a 7-6(5) tiebreaker.
Both Maria Santilli and Emma Miceli took their first sets 6-2 and 6-3 respectively. The pair went on to post similar finishes, dropping sets two and three (6-4,6-2).
