CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati baseball team closes out nonconference play with a midweek matchup against No. 5 Louisville, on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at 6 p.m. ET inside UC Baseball Stadium.

ABOUT THE BEARCATS

  • The Bearcats (10-10) took two of three from Saint Louis last weekend, winning on Friday and Saturday but losing Sunday.
  • RHP Jalen Wade gets the start against the Cardinals. He is 1-0 with a 6.35 ERA in four appearances with six strikeouts this season. He's making his first start since May 18, 2018 against USF in UC Baseball Stadium.
  • As a team, UC is hitting at a .272 clip with 33 doubles and 27 home runs with double-digit hits in 13 games.
  • The fifth and six innings have been kind to the Bearcats as they have scored a combined 56 runs in that span.
  • Griffin Merritt was tabbed for the AAC weekly honor roll after hitting .533 (8-for-15) with five runs, a triple, two home runs, three runs batted in and 16 total bases as the Bearcats went 3-1 last week against Xavier and Saint Louis. 
  • Cole Harting (.349), Wyatt Stapp (.338), Merritt (.328), Joey Bellini (.288) and Jace Mercer (.273) top the batting chart.
  • Harting has six home runs, five doubles and five swiped bags. He recently had streaks snapped which saw him hit safely in seven straight and reach base in 13 in-a-row. 
  • Paul Komistek hit .429 last week with five RBIs and has reached base in 11-straight contests.
  • Stapp's 26 hits and 18 RBIs leads the squad. Stapp, and Eric Santiago have each hit six doubles.
  • Jace Mercer has drawn a team-best 10 walks, also adding four home runs, 11 RBIs and six stolen bases.
  • On the mound, UC has a team ERA of 5.73 with 184 strikeouts over 109 walks. 
  • UC's hurlers have struck out five or more batters combined in all but one game this season (Feb. 20 at Clemson).
