CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati baseball team struggled to get the offense going and dropped a 6-1 decision to visiting Wichita State on Saturday in an American Athletic Conference game at UC Baseball Stadium.
The teams moved up Saturday's first pitch by five hours, starting at 11 a.m. ET to avoid forecasted inclement weather in Cincinnati.
UC (18-18, 7-8 AAC) hit the ball hard all day but stranded nine runners in the loss. WSU (20-14, 8-6 AAC) had a 1-0 lead in the first and snapped a five-game losing streak.
The starting pitchers from both sides pitched solid games and it was a 2-1 affair headed to the seventh. From there the Shockers scored four runs in the final three innings to put things away. Jace Kaminska picked up his fourth win of the season after going 5.2 innings and giving up one run on five hits with six strikeouts and two walks. UC's Beau Keathley took the loss and fell to 1-1 on the year. Keathley gave up a run in the first but settled down, going six innings and striking out five.
UC got on the board in the sixth after a Dondrae Bremner RBI single scored Ryan Nicholson who reached on catcher's interference.
