Baseball Matches Up With No. 11 ECU This Weekend

CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati baseball team returns home this weekend to start an eight-game stint at UC Baseball Stadium to close out the regular season. The Bearcats (24-21, 13-11 AAC) welcome No. 11 East Carolina for a four-game series starting with a Friday doubleheader at 1 p.m. ET. The teams are also slated to meet at 4 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. on Sunday.

CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati baseball team returns home this weekend to start an eight-game stint at UC Baseball Stadium to close out the regular season. The Bearcats (24-21, 13-11 AAC) welcome No. 11 East Carolina for a four-game series starting with a Friday doubleheader at 1 p.m. ET. The teams are also slated to meet at 4 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. on Sunday. 
 
All four games air on ESPN+ with Matt Noonan (pxp) and Andy Nagel (ana) calling the action. Live stats are available at BearcatStats.com.

Single-game tickets are available. Fans should visit the baseball ticket page for more information or to make their purchase now! Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, 1,000 fans will be allowed in UC Baseball Stadium for game days.

• The Bearcats have belted 55 home runs thus far in 2021, leading the AAC and ranking No. 30 nationally.
Jace Mercer, Griffin Merritt and Cole Harting share the team lead with eight home runs apiece.
 
TRENDING TOPICS
• UC took three of four last weekend at Houston, losing only a one-run game on Saturday. The Bearcats finished an eight-game road swing at 5-3 ahead of the final eight at home.
Joey Bellini hit .429 with nine hits, including a double, four runs scored and home run, with six RBIs.
Griffin Merritt had two round trippers, a double, four runs scored and six hits along with six RBIs. 
• UC got 27.1 innings pitched out of its starters with three of four – Garrett Schoenle, Zach Segal and Jalen Wade – getting wins.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Jace Mercer snagged a spot on the AAC Honor Roll last week after hitting .556, slugging .833 and racking up 10 hits, including five doubles along with four runs scored and two walks at Houston. 
• He has hit .429 in AAC play, racking up team bests with 42 hits, nine doubles and 12 stolen bases.
 
HE'S GOING THE DISTANCE ...
• LHP Garrett Schoenle was tabbed for the weekly AAC Honor Roll after pitching his first career complete game in the opener at Houston, going the distance in a 7-2 win over the Cougars.
• He tossed a career-high 127 pitches, carrying the shutout into the ninth inning where he surrendered a pair of runs. 
• The senior gave up 10 hits, struck out three – a season low – with a pair of walks. He worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth as the Cougars stranded nine.
• It was the first nine-inning complete game for a Bearcats hurler since. J.T. Perez against No. 24 UConn on April 20, 2018. 
 
HE'S BACK ...
• LHP Evan Shawver started at Houston on Saturday, making his first appearance since an abbreviated outing at ECU on April 3. 
• He worked out of a first-inning jam, stranded two runners and settled in until the bottom of the fifth when Houston scored three runs to take a 4-3 lead. 
• He threw 4.1 innings, struggled a bit with the strike zone, tallying four strikeouts and a walk in the no decision.
• He's 2-1 on the season with a 2.55 ERA in 35.1 IP with 38 Ks.
 
TWO-BASE DELIGHT
• UC leads the American with 79 doubles on the campaign. 
Eric Santiago's 13 lead the team with Jace Mercer on his hells with 10 and Griffin Merritt (9), Joey Bellini (8), Cole Harting (8) and 
Paul Komistek (8) rounding out the top five.
