CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati men's and women's cross-country teams announced their official 2021 season schedule prior to their official start of the season.
They get the season started on Friday, September 3 at the Butler Twilight Invite in Indianapolis, Indiana. The following Friday they head right up the road to Cedarville, Ohio to compete in the All-Ohio meet hosted by Cedarville University.
They have a weekend off before traveling to South Bend, Indiana to race in the Notre Dame Invite Friday, October 1.
The Bearcats then make back to back trips to Florida, competing in the pre-nationals meet hosted by Florida State University in Tallahassee, Fla on Friday, October 15th. They then head down to Lakeland, Florida to. compete in the 2021 American Athletic Conference Championships.
The teams have a week break in between to prepare for the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, which will take place in Evansville, Indiana. Those that qualify for NCAA Championships will then head back down to Tallahassee, Florida to race on November 20.
WHERE WE LEFT OFF
Due to COVID-19, the cross-country season was pushed back from the fall of 2020 to Winter/Spring of 2021. The American Athletic Conference Championships were held in February of 2021 in Augusta, Kansas where the teams posted their best combined finish since 1985.
The men's team was second in the 8k race at 4 Mile Creek Resort while the women's team took third in the 6k event.
The Bearcats look to have sixteen women and eleven men return to action from the 2020-21 season. Ellie Leathe and Maddie Walker on the women's side and Alec Sandusky, Toni Banos and Tyler Wirth on the men's side are returning All-Conference athletes. Leather was the top UC finisher at the 2020 AAC Championships, finishing third and earning all-conference honors for the second time in her career.
They also welcome five newcomers to the roster, including two women Olivia Anaple and Jodie Pierce, as well as three men Harry Custer, Nick Dehaven, and Alec Sandusky.
