Volleyball Falls to #3 Kentucky

DAYTON – The University of Cincinnati volleyball team fell to the 3 Kentucky Wildcats and reigning 2020 NCAA Tournament Champions 3-0 Saturday afternoon in Dayton, Ohio.

DAYTON – The University of Cincinnati volleyball team fell to the #3 Kentucky Wildcats and reigning 2020 NCAA Tournament Champions 3-0 Saturday afternoon in Dayton, Ohio.
 
Cincinnati (1-2) finished the third game of the weekend with 26 kills, 26 assists, and 31 digs.
 
NOTES SET BREAK DOWN 
SET 1: UK 25, UC 18
The set got started with a back and forth matchup. The only tie of the set was when Molly Harrison served up an ace to make the score 3-3. Abby Walker added her second kill of the match to bring the score to 5-4. The Bearcats stayed with Kentucky the entire set, going back and forth the whole time. Carrier subbed into the game when the score was 9-6 and had big back-to-back kills to bring the score to 11-9. However, Kentucky ended the set on a 4-0 and 2-0 run to beat the Bearcats 25-18.
 
SET 2: UK 25, UC 15
The Bearcats earned the first point of the set with a service error by Kentucky, however the Wildcats then went on a 4-0 run. The Bearcats tried to chip away at the lead with kills by Carrier (6-3), Williams (7-4) and Norcom (9-5), but couldn't catch up to the Wildcats. UK went on a 3-0 run to make it 17-9, however the Bearcats followed with their own 3-0 run with two kills by Williams. Williams scored four of the next five points for the Bearcats to bring the score to 18-13, but UK went on two more 3-0 runs to finish the set 25-15.
 
SET 3: UK 25, UC 18
Williams and Carrier started set three with a huge block to score the first point and start off up 1-0. The game went back and forth until the score was 2-4, then the Wildcats went on a 7-0 scoring run to bring the score to 9-4. The Wildcats then went on another 7-0 scoring run to bring the score to 20-9. The Bearcats weren't going down without a fight and went on a 4-0 scoring run with kills by Williams and Norcom to bring the score to 20-13. However, it wasn't enough and the Wildcats finished out the set, winning 25-18.
 
UP NEXT
The Bearcats head up to South Bend next weekend to participate in the Notre Dame Tournament. Their first game is Friday, Sept. 3rd at 4:30 p.m. ET against Milwaukee. They then play Notre Dame Saturday, Sept. 4th at 6 p.m. ET and round out the weekend playing Bowling Green on Sunday, Sept. 5th at 11:30 a.m. ET.
