FIRST WEEK IN THE BOOKS
Two highly-democratic performances by the Bearcats paved the way to wins over Evansville (65-43) and Georgia (73-68). Jeremiah Davenport led UC in scoring both games with 11 points each and has a team-high 7.5 rpg. Eighty of the team's 138 points have come in the paint, with the 48 against Georgia serving as its most since Jan. 20, 2018 against East Carolina. UC unleashed a 17-0 run on the Bulldogs to gain a 31-19 lead late in the first half.
Cincinnati blocked 12 shots, its most in a two-game stretch since the final two of the 2019-20 season. Hayden Koval, the nation's active shot-block leader, led the way with four, while Viktor Lakhin had three to go with some exceptional offensive moves in his collegiate debuts. UC boasts a 40.5-32.5 rebounding margin, helped by 17 offensive boards against Georgia.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Cincinnati is looking for its first 3-0 start since 2017-18. UC utilized the same lineup in the first two games, and the bench has come up huge with a 64-26 scoring advantage. Mika Adams-Woods ranks first in the AAC and 12th nationally in assist-turnover ratio (9:1). The Bearcats are eighth in fewest turnovers per game (8.0), with the seven against Georgia their fewest since Dec. 21, 2019 vs. Iowa.
ABOUT THE SERIES
Cincinnati won the only previous meeting, an 85-53 win on November 14, 2019 at home. The Bearcats never trailed, led by 12 at the half, then outscored the Bulldogs 50-30 in the second. Davenport and Adams-Woods combined for 25 minutes off the bench. AAMU is also the hometown school of sophomore guard A.J. McGinnis. The Bulldogs' Miles Parker played at Hargrave Military Academy, one year ahead of Davenport, while Middletown HS grad EJ Williams gets a homecoming as well.
