CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati Bearcats fell at home to the Ohio University Bobcats 73-62 on Tuesday afternoon at Fifth Third Arena. The Bearcats fall to 2-1 on the season after winning their first two games at Fifth Third Arena.

CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati Bearcats fell at home to the Ohio University Bobcats 73-62 on Tuesday afternoon at Fifth Third Arena. The Bearcats fall to 2-1 on the season after winning their first two games at Fifth Third Arena.

Cincinnati played host to local schools within the tri-state area as part of Education Day, hosting 1,500 students and faculty for the afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bearcats started the game on an emphatic 14-2 run led by Arame Niang's six points and a Jadyn Scott clutch-and-one lay-up for a 14-5 lead. The Bobcats responded with a massive 17-2 run thanks to a balanced attack to take a 22-16 lead at the break.

Erica Johnson hit two three-point shots to start the second quarter and the visitors led 28-16. The Bearcats tightened up on defense in the second quarter, and went 4:38 without allowing an Ohio field goal. Arame Niang led all Bearcats with eight points and five rebounds at the half as Cincinnati trailed 45-29.

Ohio opened up the second half on a 11-0 run and never looked back. AAC conference player of the week fouled out mid-way during the fourth quarter.

After one point in the first half, Jillian Hayes led all scorers after the break with 16 points and finished with 17 total for the game.

  • Jillian Hayes led the Bearcats with 17 points and also contributed with five rebounds, five assists, two blocks, and two steals.
  • AAC's conference player of the week Akira Levy had 13 points, three rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and two steals before being fouled out of the game in the 4th quarter.
  • Jadyn Scott led Cincinnati with nine rebounds and also contributed with nine points and three assists.
  • Niang had her season-best 12 points and also collected five rebounds.
  • Cincinnati shot 33.9% from the field, 29.4% from three-point range, and 60% from the free-throw line.
  • Rebounds were evenly split with 43 for each time.
  • Cincinnati's first loss at home since Febuary 20th vs Houston.
