CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team heads out west for their first road trip of the season to face off against the University of Utah Friday, November 19th at 9 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. MT.
THE SERIES
This is only the second time in program history the Bearcats will face the Utah Utes. Last time out, it was both teams' first game of the 2019-20 regular season. A tight competition early on led to a 25-25 tie at halftime. UC came out of the break energized, outscoring the Utes (0-1) 25-17 in the third period to take a 50-42 advantage into the fourth. In the final segment, the Bearcats saw their once 11-point lead reduced three with under a minute left to play. Down the stretch, the home team iced the game from the free-throw line to come away with a big out-of-conference victory to start the year.
SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
Junior point guard Akira Levy was recently named the American Athletic Conference's Player of the Week (Nov. 15th) for her performances in the first two games of the season. Levy scored a total of 30 points to go along with eight steals and 15 assists. Levy currently leads the team in points (43) and steals (10).
The Bearcats start the season 2-1 with wins over Alabama A&M and Bellarmine and have one loss to Ohio University. In the Bearcats' last game against Ohio, Jillian Hayes led the Bearcats with 17 points and also contributed with five rebounds, five assists, two blocks, and two steals. Three Bearcats scored in double figures: Jillian Hayes (17), Akira Levy (13) and Arame Niang (12).
UC's 2021-22 roster includes seven returning players and eight new faces. 2021 AAC All-Freshman Team member Jillian Hayes returns alongside seniors Arame Niang and Nesma Khalifa and juniors Jada Scott, Jadyn Scott, Sofia Gritzali, and Caitlyn Wilson.

Against Saint Mary's, the team shot over 50 percent from the floor and hit nine three-pointers in the contest; the third time this season, they were over eight made three-pointers. Jenna Johnson led the team in scoring with a career-high 22 points on 9-of-13 shooting. This was her second straight game scoring in double figures after dropping 21 points against Xavier.
Senior point guard Dru Gylten was named to the Nancy Lieberman Award Watch List. She is 1-of-20 point guards named to the watch list. This is the third straight season Gylten has been named to the watch list.
Dru Gylten and Brynna Maxwell were named to the Preseason Pac-12 All-Conference honorable mention as voted on by the Pac-12 Media.
