THE SERIES
The series between the Bearcats and the Chippewas is tied 1-1. Last time out, UC fell on the road 79-62 on December 12, 2020. CMU took control of the game over the second and third quarters, outscoring UC 35-23 and holding the Bearcats to a 10-of-33 shooting effort. Overall, UC finished 25-of-65 (.385) from the field. Arame Niang finished with eight points, four rebounds and a pair of assists, Jillian Hayes totaled a career best eight points, grabbed a career high seven boards and had two blocks, and Jadyn Scott blocked a pair of shots, tying her career high in the game.
SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
The Bearcats start the season 3-3 with home wins against Alabama A&M, Bellarmine and Western Carolina.
Last time out, the Bearcats lost in Columbus, 86-50. UC shot 63% from the free throw line, going 10-for-16. Sophomore Jillian Hayes led the way with 16 points. The Bearcats outscored the Buckeyes 15 to 14 in the second quarter, highlighted by back-to-back threes by junior point guard Akira Levy and freshman guard Braylyn Milton. Hayes had a team leading six points with two layups and two made free throws in the quarter.
Junior Akira Levy currently leads the AAC in steals and ranks 19th in the NCAA (25), first in the AAC and 25th in the NCAA in steals per game (3.17), and ranks 2nd in the AAC and 31st in the NCAA in assits (31). Jillian Hayes leads the AAC in blocked shots and is ranked 38th in the NCAA with nine blocks.
SCOUTING THE CHIPPEWAS
Central Michigan snapped a two-game losing streak with a 56-50 victory over Marist, improving to 2-3 on the season. CMU saw its nine-point lead shrink to two, 48-47, early in the fourth quarter. Molly Davis scored on a drive with 5:24 left to up the Chippewa lead to 50-47 and trigger an 8-3 game-closing run.
In 2020-21, the Chippewas won the Mid-American Conference Tournament to earn a fourth consecutive bid to the NCAA Tournament, finishing with an 18-9 record, an RPI of 23 and a ranking of 12th in the COLLEGEINSIDER.COM Mid-Major Top-25 poll.
Current head coach Heather Oesterle joined the CMU staff as an assistant in 2010-11, became the associate head coach in 2012-13, and then took over the program prior to the 2019-20 season. In her Oesterle's 11 seasons, CMU is 237- 121 and has posted 20 or more victories in nine of those seasons, becoming a fixture in the weekly CollegeInsider.com Mid Major Top 25.

The Bearcats are set to host the shootout this year after the game was postponed last season due to COVID-19 protocols.
