The Cincinnati Track & Field team competed in their first meet of the 2021-22 indoor track season on Friday, December 10 at the Hoosier Open in Bloomington, IN.

BLOOOMINGTON – The Cincinnati Track & Field team competed in their first meet of the 2021-22 indoor track season on Friday, December 10 at the Hoosier Open in Bloomington, IN.  The meet was hosted by Indiana University.

The Cincinnati men's and women's teams sent athletes to compete in sprints, jumps, and throwing events.  The meet showed a lot of promise for the rest of the season as the Bearcats took first in 7 events and broke 2 school records. 
 
DOMINATION IN THE 300M
Both the men's and women's Indoor 300m records went down at the Hoosier Open.  Caisja Chandler broke the women's record by a margin of 0.73 seconds, setting a new record of 37.70.  Chris Borzor broke his own 300m record with a new fastest time of 33.73.  The men's team swept the podium of the 300m as well with Steven McElroy (34.56) and Tyrese Vanhorne (35.02) rounding out the top 3 in the event.

PERFORMANCES TO NOTE
Sam Meece:  Meece showed a strong start to the year with a first place finish in the 35 lb weight throw of 18.52m (60-09.25).  He also finished __ in shot put with
Austin Edwards:  The reigning long jump conference champion tok first place in the Hoosier Open with an outstanding jump 7.32m (24-00.25)
Anaya Dees:  Dees took first in long jump as well as 2nd in triple jump in the first indoor meet of the year.
Kennedy Marable:  Equally as impressive in the long jumps and triple jump, Marable took first in triple jump 12.65m (41-06) and third in long jump 5.70m (18-08.5)
Caisja Chandler:  along with her 300m win and school record, Chandler took first in the 60m dash with a time of 7.70. 
 
NEXT UP
The Bearcats will continue training throughout December and return to competition on January 14th, 2022, at the Jim Greene Invitational in Lexington, KY.  Both the men's and women's teams will be bringing full squads to the meet.
