THE RUNDOWN
Xavier got the best of the Bearcats on Saturday night, out-shooting the Bearcats to a 42-27 halftime lead and not looking back for an 83-63 victory. The Musketeers had a 35-17 edge in free-throw attempts, including 21 in the second half alone. John Newman III scored a season-high 14 points on just five field-goal attempts,  his most since having 12 on consecutive nights for Clemson against Georgia Tech and Florida State early in the 2021 ACC slate.

David DeJulius scored 10 of his 12 points in the first half to give UC its biggest offensive punch. It was his fifth-straight double-figure scoring game and seventh of the season (had six all of last year). Since last season, he has improved his field-goal percentage (4.3 points), three-point range (5.2 points), and scoring (3.8 ppg). A.J. McGinnis also saw his first action since a Nov. 16 injury against Alabama A&M. Viktor Lakhin, last week's AAC Freshman of the Week, scored buckets on consecutive possessions upon entering the contest.

Mike Saunders Jr. is 4-for-5 from deep the last two games, springing ahead for a team-best 10-for-20 clip overall after going 5-for-23 as a freshman last year. Mika Adams-Woods jumped to second nationally in assist-turnover ratio (5.14). The Bearcats still boast the seventh-best field-goal (36.5 percent) and 15th-best three-point defense (26.3) while committing only 10.0 turnovers per game (12th nationally).

RECOGNIZING THE 2001 BEARCATS
Cincinnati is excited to welcome back its 2000-01 team after its 20-year celebration was postponed due to COVID. The Bearcats finished 25-10, claiming the Conference USA regular-season championship and making the Sweet 16 as the No. 5 seed, defeating BYU (84-59) and Kent State (66-43) along the way. Steve Logan (who earned AP Honorable Mention All-America honors) led the scoring attack with 17.6 ppg, as well as Kenny Satterfield (14.4 ppg, 5.1. apg) and Leonard Stokes (10.1, 3.9 rpg).

FAMU SERIES HISTORY
Cincinnati has won both meetings in the all-time series, the last coming on Nov. 22, 2010. In that matchup, the Bearcats made 12 three-pointers and had four in double-figures, featuring Yancy Gates' 11-point, 11-rebound double-double. FAMU head coach Robert McCullum led South Florida from 2003-07, competing against UC in Conference USA and the BIG EAST.
