MEMPHIS, TENN. – The University of Cincinnati baseball team doubled up Memphis 8-4 on Sunday at FedExPark to earn an American Athletic Conference series win over the Tigers.
Cincinnati (17-17, 6-7 AAC) belted four home runs and got a quality start from Jalen Wade who went 6.0 innings, giving up a pair of runs on five hits with five strikeouts, no walks and got the win. Max Bergmann came in with the bases loaded and got the final two outs of the ninth for his third save of the campaign.
The Bearcats jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first after Cole Harting scored on a wild pitch after leading off with a single. A three-run second inning build on the lead after Griffin Merritt homered to left to score Ryan Nicholson who was hit by a pitch and Jace Mercer hit a two-out, RBI single to center to score Joe Powell.
It was Nicholson's turn for a round tripper in the third when he hit the second pitch he saw to right field with two outs to score Paul Komistek. UC added single runs in the seventh and eighth on deep solo shots by Mercer and Komistek, respectively.
Mercer was 3-for-5 with a run scored, 2 RBIs and his home run while Merritt had two hits, two RBIs, a double, run scored and home run.
Memphis fell to 12-22 on the season with a 2-10 mark in AAC play.

• Mercer hit .556 for the weekend and slugged .778, totaling 10 hits, including a double and home run, four runs scored, three stolen bases, two RBIs and two walks.

• Nicholson had seven hits, batted .538, scored six runs, drew four walks, batted in four, hit a home run and stole a base.
