SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
Head coach Eric Toth is heading into his eighth season with the Bearcats. He boasts a 73-66 overall record, which puts him in second on the UC all-time list for the Spring only season and third on the all-time list for the fall and spring combined. He is six wins away from earning the number two spot (Marty Wolf has 79 career combined wins).
Red-shirt seniors Emma Micelli and Ioana Guna return to the team for a fifth season and will look to guide the team through leadership on and off the court.
Emma Micelli currently sits in the seventh spot all-time in career singles wins with 68, eighth all-time in career doubles with 56, and seventh all-time in career wins with 124.
FROM COACH TOTH
"I think we competed great in the fall. I think the biggest barometer in the fall is the regional and we did average there (finished 15-14 overall), but with these kids it's not the lack of effort. I don't have to worry about them competing. We have good depth, we have good options on this years' squad. Everyone has come back from the holiday in shape and 100% healthy and we will be ready to go on Sunday."
IN THE RANKINGS
Freshman Elizabeth Pendergast earned a no. 121 national ranking by the International Tennis Association on Dec. 8th after finishing the fall with a 9-1 record in singles and 4-1 record in doubles. It's the first ranking for the UC tennis program since 2017.
SCOUTING PURDUE
Head coach Laura Glitz enters her 15th season at the helm in West Lafayette as the winningest coach in program history with a solid roster of tested veterans and experienced newcomers. Junior Csilla Fodor cracked into the ITA rankings at No. 111 in singles after a 13-2 record during the fall.
Freshman Carmen Gallardo Guevara shined during her first fall in West Lafayette with an 11-2 mark in singles, while sophomore Rut Galindo went 9-2 in singles, as well.
