CINCINNATI -- The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team heads to Wichita, Kansas for the first American Athletic Conference matchup of the season, facing off against Wichita State Thursday, March 17 at 11 a.m. ET.
The Bearcats have won nine straight games and are 10-3 overall on the season. The Shockers are currently on a four game losing streak and are 6-8 overall.
SERIES HISTORY
This will be the third time Cincinnati and Wichita State will face-off against each other, with the Shockers winning the first two matchups.
Last time out on March 5, 2020, both teams battled down to the final point but UC fell 4-3 in the end against Wichita State. After UC secured the doubles point, Wichita State took the first singles match to even the team score at one then took the lead with a win on court two. The momentum shifted when Ioana Guna won 7-6 and 6-3 to tie the match back up at 2-2. The Shockers won the next match on court six before Emma Miceli battled to a 7-6, 6-4 victory to leave it down to the final pair. Maria Santilli took the set to three sets, eventually falling 6-1, 7-6, 6-2.

- The Bearcats have won eight or more straight games since 1991 only three times: the start of the 1993-94 season under Carol Tanner (8 straight games), during the Spring of 2017 under current head coach Eric Toth (10 straight), and now nine straight during the Spring of 2022.
- The Bearcats head to Wichita looking to win their tenth straight game for the second time in Coach Toth's tenure.
- Since 1991, Coach Toth owns the longest win streak with his 10 straight wins from March 24 through April 19 of the 2017 Spring season.
- Redshirt sophomore Kelli Niehaus remains undefeated in singles action this season at 10-0 after winning her match over UMKC 6-4, 6-4.
- Redshirt senior Emma Miceli (9-3), freshman Callie Flanagan (6-2), redshirt junior Maria Santilli (8-3) and freshman Elizabeth Pendergast (6-7) are all coming off singles wins after the Bearcats' 6-1 victory over UMKC.
- Wichita State is 3-2 overall at home this season.
- During their four game losing streak, the Shockers have lost at Arkansas, to #70 Memphis, at Abilene Christian and at UT Arlington.
- Last time out against UT Arlington, WSU fell 4-0.
- Wichita native and true freshman Clara Whitaker is a team-best 9-4 in dual matches while splitting time between the Nos. 2-6 spots.
