HOUSTON – The Cincinnati track and field athletes competing in Houston today started the outdoor season strong, with three first place finishes and a school record.
Junior Chris Borzor led the team in Houston with his new school record and first-place finish in the 100m dash with a time of 10.33. Senior Austin Edwards also brought home a win in the long jump. His jump of 7.54m is currently ranked first in the nation.
PERFORMANCES OF NOTE
Men's Long Jump:
Edwards' nation-leading jump not only ranks first in the nation at this time but also set a meet record. Carlos Kouassi and Austin Goolsby also competed in the long jump, placing fifth and seventh respectively.
Men's 100m Dash:
Borzor's first-place finish in the 100m dash took home the Bearcats' first outdoor win in a running event and currently ranks third in the nation. His 10.33 bests the previous school record of 10.36 by .03 seconds.
Women's High Jump:
Annika Kinley's winning jump of 1.70m is currently tied for fifth place in the nation. Alyssa Matheny's second place jump of 1.65 puts her in a tie for 11th at this time.
Men's Hammer Throw:
Three Cincinnati athletes placed in the top five in the event, led by Sam Meece in second with a throw of 59.32m. He was followed by Danny Jones in third with 53.04m and Jacob Rieman in fourth with 52.87m.
Men's 200m Dash:
Borzor ran another outstanding race in the 200m dash with a time of 21.03. This time ranks fourth in the nation in the event. He was followed closely behind by Steven McElroy, who placed third in 21.47.
NEXT UP
The distance squad will travel to Raleigh, N.C. to compete in Raleigh Relays next Friday and Saturday. This will be All-American Ellie Leather's first race since the NCAA Indoor Championship meet.
