TicketsCINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati tennis team fell to Xavier University, 6-1, on Saturday evening at the Eastern Hills Tennis Club.
The Bearcats' 11-match win streak comes to a close, with the Bearcats moving to 12-4 on the season while Xavier improves to 8-7.
In doubles play, Xavier won quickly on court one, 6-2, before court three took the match to an exciting tiebreaker. Freshman Callie Flanagan and redshirt sophomore Kelli Niehaus prevailed over Kat Lyman and Anna Smith, 7-6. The doubles point came down to court two, which also went to an exciting tiebreaker. UC earned the doubles point when redshirt seniors Ioana Guna and Emma Miceli won their match on court two, 7-6.
Xavier went on to sweep the singles matches 6-0 with Niehaus marking her first loss of the season, moving to 11-1 overall.
COACH TOTH ON THE LOSS
"You are disappointed when you lose this one. Look, you just have to give Xavier credit they are a really good team, they've played a really good schedule, they are battle tested. They just outplayed us in singles. They were just a ball better all night. You know, our effort was great, we just probably didn't play as well as we needed to. You just have to give Xavier all the credit, tonight they were the better team."
