SENIOR SALUTE
Kylie Nause (Phoenix, Md.) and Anna Platou (Naperville, Ill.) will be honored prior to Saturday's game as both of them conclude their careers this season. The only other senior is Alyssa Adams, who was recognized last year and returned for her bonus COVID season in January.
PIRATE SERIES
Cincinnati is 3-1 against ECU, splitting the two meetings April 23-25, 2021. The Bearcats led 9-8 with 13:39 left in the first one before four-straight Pirate goals were too much to overcome, despite Peyton Mottice and Monica Borzillo scoring over the final 32 seconds to fall 12-11. Heroics were on the Bearcats' side two days later, as Platou scored her second goal of the year with 24 ticks remaining for a 14-13 win, clinching an AAC Tournament spot.
RECORD CHASING
Nause's hat trick at Old Dominion was her 13th of the year (15 games), breaking Monica Borzillo's 2019 record as she coached on the Monarchs' sideline. Nause's 57 goals are four away from matching Borzillo's 2019 mark as well.
BREAKOUT GRACE
Junior Grace Wehland, the league's Attacker of the Week, became the second AAC athlete to score five goals on as many shots when she accomplished the feat Saturday. It was also her first hat trick after having no goals or assists her first two years, and she is up to 18 and six (both third on the team) this season.
OFFENSIVE DEPTH
Ava Goeller's four goals at ODU put her sixth in school history with nine hat tricks on the year. Her 41 goals and 14 assists are one and nine more than she had in her Big South Freshman of the Year campaign last season. Elizabeth Murphy is also eighth in assists per game, with her 19 this year ranking seventh at the school. UC's 31.7 shots per game lead the AAC, with its 38 against No. 10 Florida remaining the Gators' season-high.
DEFENSIVELY SPEAKING
Dani Mlkvy's 67 draw controls are fifth at the school, with both Adams and Sam Mlkvy next with 70. Sam also has the first (97) and second-most (85). Dani's tally this year is third in the AAC, helping the Bearcats to the league-lead of 15.53 per game.
Gianna Pope stepped in for Sophie O'Brien the final 36 minutes on Saturday, totaling five saves to set two season-highs. It was her eighth appearance on the year, lowering her GAA to 9.10, something she has improved each year. UC allowed just one goal in the third quarter, its first time doing so in an AAC contest this year. Pope played 13 games last season and eight in 2020.
