LAST TIME OUT
Last Saturday's home finale against ECU was a tale of two quarters. The Bearcats led 4-0 after the first period, its first-such shutout in AAC play, but the Pirates ended on a 5-0 run over the final 6:30 to take a halftime lead it would not lose. The Bearcats, who committed a season-low eight turnovers, had shot advantages of 15-4 at the break and 20-7 in to the second, but just 16 out of 36 for the game were on goal compared to the Pirates' 22 of 33.
Cincinnati's seven wins have all come when allowing 12 or fewer goals, while all nine of its losses have come when allowing more.
CHASING HISTORY
Kylie Nause's 60 goals put her one away from matching Monica Borzillo's 2019 single-season school record. Nause's 139 goals are also third, with Laura Simanski (2009-12) next up at 153. Fifth-year Bearcat Alyssa Adams' 114 rank fourth as well. Nause's hat trick against ECU, on just five shots, was her 14th of the year, padding her school record.
KEY CONTRIBUTORS
Elizabeth Murphy, who had just one assist last season, has scored 12 goals with a team-high 20 assists this season, the latter ranking seventh. Dani Mlkvy, a Preseason All-AAC selection, is up to 72 draw controls, ranking third. Her older sister, Sam, has the most (97, 2019) and second-most (85, 2021) in school history. Dani ranks third in the league for draw controls and ground balls, while her 21 caused turnovers lead the team as well.
SCOUTING VANDERBILT
UC is seeking its first Nashville victory after four prior contests, and Adams is the only one remaining from the last trip on April 4, 2018. Vanderbilt leads the all-time series 8-2, with UC falling in a pair of two-goal heartbreakers last season in Nippert Stadium after winning 18-15 in 2019.
The first meeting last year saw the Commodores lead 7-2 at the break before four Bearcat goals in seven minutes pushed it to a one-goal game, but it was too much to overcome. Two days later, UC struck first with a 9-4 lead at the intermission until Vanderbilt scored eight-straight to win 16-14. Nause scored seven goals over the two games, while Adams had four in the second one. The head-to-head team stats were also near identical over the weekend.
ROAD WARRIORS
Six of Cincinnati's seven wins have come on the road, a distant school record. The Bearcats were 2-5 on the road in each of their last two full seasons. The squad found a different way to win in its most-recent road venture at ODU, when Gianna Pope stepped into goal for the final 36 minutes and registered five saves (both season-highs) in her eighth game of the year.
