CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team defeated Stony Brook 5-1 on Thursday afternoon at Gettler Stadium.

With the win, the Bearcats continue their unbeaten season, improving to 3-0-2 (0-0-0 AAC).

"It was really great to see our newcomers making an impact today in the absence of some key pieces," head coach Neil Stafford said. "Our staff is encouraged by the huge role they played in our win today."

A dominating start for the first touch saw Mackenzie Tucker connect with Ellie Flower off a corner kick attempt as Flower located the ball in traffic and headed it through the right side of the frame at the 1:59 mark. It was the fifth fastest goal scored under head coach Neil Stafford and the second consecutive match in which Flower has found the back of the net.

The Bearcats continued to attack in the final third and were able to double their lead in the 18th minute with Tucker notching her second assist of the match on a cross that was headed in by Sarah Kate Rath for her first career collegiate goal. The two assists by Tucker were also her first as a Bearcat.

Cincinnati dominated possession for the remainder of the half, outshooting Stony Brook 11-2 and holding a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks at the break.

Stony Brook responded with a goal of their own in the 57th minute as Reilly Rich notched her third of the season on a strike that tucked inside the high right post.

Cincinnati re-established control of the match in the 73rd minute as Megan Smith dribbled through the defense and connected on her first collegiate goal from right inside the 18-yard box. The Bearcats added two more tallies in the final five minutes as Paige Miller recorded on her first goal of the season in the 87th minute and Smith added another in the 89th minute.

The goals scored with 1:19 of each other by Miller and Smith are the seventh fastest consecutive goals in program history.

The Bearcats outshot the Seawolves 22-5 on the afternoon. The 22 shots are the most in a match since Cincinnati recorded 26 against Temple on Sept. 23, 2021. The Bearcats have held the shot advantage over their opponents in all three wins this season.

The five goals scored today matches the most since a 9-0 win against Eastern Kentucky on Sept. 5, 2014. The Bearcats also tallied five goals in victories over Eastern Illinois last season and Saint Francis (PA) in 2014.

Cincinnati travels to take on Pittsburgh on Sunday, Sept. 4 at 1 p.m. ET.
