TicketsCINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team celebrated Senior Day by defeating Morehead State 3-0 at Gettler Stadium on Sunday.
With the win, the Bearcats move to 4-1-3, 0-0-0 AAC on the season.
The Bearcats got on the scoreboard first in the 12th minute, capitalizing on early possession in the attacking third as Vanessa DiNardo controlled a denied cross and lined up a shot that found the bottom left corner of the frame for an early 1-0 lead. Cincinnati struck again in the 15th minute, when Maddie Swingle placed a shot inside the right post off a set piece for her first collegiate goal, doubling the advantage.
Swingle is the fourth Bearcat to record their first collegiate goal this season, joining Megan Smith, Sarah Kate Rath and Ellie Flower.
Cincinnati continued to press Morehead State before the break as DiNardo secured her third career brace in the 27th minute on a perfectly played ball from Paige Miller at the top of the box, beating the goalkeeper with a strike that found the bottom left corner of the net.
DiNardo has now led the team in goals in three matches this season.
Cincinnati controlled the match for the final 45 minutes, maintaining 61 percent of possession to secure the shutout. Anna Rexford added a save as the defense registered their fourth clean sheet of the season.
The Bearcats recorded a season-high 24 shots on the afternoon, outshooting Morehead State 24-3. Cincinnati is 4-0-1 this season when holding the shot advantage.
Cincinnati opens AAC play when the Bearcats host Memphis on Thursday, Sept. 22.
