CINCINNATI— The University of Cincinnati cross country team will head up north to compete in the Spartan Invite on Friday, Sept. 16. in East Lansing, Michigan.

"I am very excited to see our full-distance squads in action at the Spartan Invitational, head coach Susan Seaton said. "With Tyler Wirth and Milo Greder joining the men's racing squad, we will be at full strength and the women will return everyone from the last race and will test themselves at the 6K distance for the first time this season."

The meet will be hosted by Michigan State at the Forest Akers East Golf Course. The women's 6K race will begin at 11 a.m. ET, followed by the men's 8K at 11:40 a.m. ET.

The men's and women's field will each feature 20 teams from all three NCAA levels, including Great Lakes Region opponents Ball State, Kent State, Valpariso, Western Michigan, and host Michigan State.

"I am excited to have, essentially, our complete lineup debut this Friday. This time of the year, you are still working the kinks out, athletes get sick, working through a high workload," assistant coach Lucas Rothenberger said. "It is really important to go through the ritual of preparing for a race, put on that uniform and then go test yourself. So, I look forward to seeing how we execute that process up in East Lansing against some very good teams."

The Bearcats will travel a total of 17 student-athletes to East Lansing, eight women and seven men. The lineup will feature seniors Maddie Walker and Matt Hoak, who finished as the Bearcats' top scorers at the RedHawk Rumble last week.

"I am really looking forward to bringing this group of ladies to the Spartan Invite," assistant coach Sarah Anderson said. "We had a solid block of training coming off the last race, and the pieces are really starting to come together. Each day the ladies bring a new sense of positive energy, and I know they are hungry and ready for another opportunity to line up against solid competition."

BEARCATS IN THE RANKINGS
In the latest USTFCCCA Regional rankings, the men's team continues to hold the eighth spot in the Great Lakes Region.

LAST TIME OUT
Cincinnati found success on the Miami University Cross Country Course last Saturday, Sept. 3, at the RedHawk Rumble. The men placed second with 43 points in the 8K race, while the women finshed third with 57 points on the 5K course.

Maddie Walker lead the way for the Bearcats, finishing second overall with a time of 17:47.03. Walker was followed by Carmela Henning, Sarah Madix, Rylee Penn and Caitlyn Walsh. Madix and Sager scored for the Bearcats their collegiate debuts.

Matt Hoak opened the season in mid-season form in the men's eight 8K, crossing the finish line with a runner-up time of 24:54.78. Christian Stevens, Seth Elking, Ryan Pehlman and Julius Hild rounded out the scorers for the men.
