CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati senior Tyler Wirth has been named American Athletic Conference Men's Athlete of the Week, announced Tuesday.
This is the first time in his career that he has received the honor.
Wirth had a dominant performance in his season debut at the Spartan Invite last Friday. He finished sixth overall with an 8K time of 24:45.84, averaging a sub five-minute at 4:58 and remaining in the top-seven performers in all splits in East Lansing, Mich.
"It's exciting to see Tyler evolve as an athlete," men's cross country coach Lucas Rothenberger said. "He has been a very good miler for a while now, but it is pretty cool to see him grow into a well-rounded distance runner who can run very good cross country."
The Hawley, Penn. native led the UC men's team to a second-place team finish with 89 points.
Wirth is the first Bearcat to earn the distinction since Alec Sandusky on Oct. 5, 2021.
The Bearcats will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 1, as they travel to Louisville, Ky., for the Live in Lou.
