CINCINNATI - University of Cincinnati cross country is back in action this weekend, competing in the 21st Live in Lou Cross Country Classic on Saturday, Oct. 1, in Louisville, Kentucky.

"I am excited about us returning to the Live in Lou Classic," head coach Susan Seaton said. "It has always been an exciting competition, and it's great to have it back on the schedule this year."

This will be the first time since 2019 that the Bearcats will run at the Live in Lou Classic, when the men placed seventh overall while the women finished 11th.

LIVE IN LOU
The meet is hosted by the city of Louisville and will be held at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park. The men's 8K gold race is slated for 9:30 a.m. ET, while the women's 5k gold race will start at 10:15 a.m. ET.

"The changing of the season has brought a change of attitude. We spent some time as a unit this past week discussing our team goals and values for this cross-country season," assistant coach Sarah Anderson said. "The ladies have strung together another solid block of training, and now that we have both individual and team goals instated, the passion and excitement for this upcoming race are starting to shine through. This will be the last 5K of the season, and women are hunting for fast times. Louisville is a great, competitive course, and I can't wait for this group to take another step in the right direction."

The women's field will consist of 44 teams, while the men will compete with 36 teams from all levels of the NCAA, including Great Lakes Region opponents Eastern Michigan, Indiana State, Kent State, Miami (OH), Southern Indiana and Wright State.

"This weekend is pretty important for our group to see how we function in the midst of a bit of chaos," assistant coach Lucas Rothenberger said. "This will be the largest field that we have seen this fall, and I really want to see how we handle executing a race plan surrounded by a lot of bodies. Their fitness is in a really nice place with 4-6 weeks left until the championship portion of the season, but again it is a process to translate that fitness into a race. This weekend's meet is another opportunity to fine-tune that process and connect the dots from training to racing."

The Bearcats will travel a total of 19 student-athletes to Louisville, 10 women and nine men, The lineup will feature seniors Maddie Walker and Christian Stevens, who were UC's top scorers at the event in 2019.
