CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team concluded their fall season at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships last week in Knoxville, Tenn.
Elizabeth Pendergast, Maria Santilli, Cassie McLay and Kelli Niehaus represented the Bearcats in the tournament, taking part in singles and doubles competition at Barksdale Stadium and Goodfriend Tennis Center.
Niehaus and Santilli secured a pair of victories in the doubles qualifying round over the opening two days of action to advance to the first round doubles main draw.
Niehaus secured two straight-set singles win over the week, taking down her opponent 6-2, 6-4, in the first round singles qualifying and 6-1, 6-1 in the first round B singles draw.
Pendergast clinched a two-set win in the first round singles main draw, 6-3, 6-2, while McLay claimed her first win of the event by securing 12 of the 14 points in the first round consolation singles match, 6-0, 6-2.
The Bearcats will now turn their attention to dual match season, starting in January.
