CINCINNATI— The University of Cincinnati men's and women's track and field teams will hold its 42nd annual indoor Red vs. Black Intrasquad on Friday, Dec. 2, as the teams prepare for the 2022-23 indoor track and field season.
The meet will begin at 2:30 p.m. and will be held at the Armory Fieldhouse. The meet is open to the public and there is no admission fee.
On Tuesday, Nov. 29, coaches decided to hold two events, the discus and 600-yard race, due to excellent weather conditions.
The Red team swept both 600-yard races as Carmen Licht (1:26.4h) won the women's race and Dominique Hall (1:12.0) won the men's race with his meet record time.
After falling in the 600-yard event, the Black team would answer back, with Korbin Spencer winning the men's discus with a mark of 51.23 meters and Alexandria Hunter's throw of 43.33 meters earning first in the women's discus.
The Red team will go into Friday with an early lead of 21-15 over the Black team.
The Bearcats open the 2022-23 indoor track and field season next Friday, Dec. 9, at the Hoosier Open in Bloomington Ind.
// NOTABLE RETURNERS
After one of the most impressive freshman seasons in bearcat history, now sophomore Steven McElroy will look to repeat last year's success. Coming off a season where he was the indoor and outdoor AAC 400m individual champion and broke the UC 400-meter record ( 44.93).
McElroy was not the only Bearcat to sweep an event at the AAC championships. Returning for a sixth year, Austin Edwards the reigning indoor and outdoor long jump champions, will look to defend his titles.
Since the creation of the AAC, the women's high jump squad has won seven of the past eight indoor AAC conference titles. Two-time All-American high jumper, Taylor Beard is back to compete, as well as defending AAC indoor high jump co-champion Annika Kinley. She shared last years title with former teammate Alyssa Matheny.
// NEW ADDITIONS
The Bearcats added 36 newcomers, 19 freshmen and 17 transfers. to the program this season. Some notable newcomers include graduate transfer Jamie Dailey, The 2022 NCAA Division III 5000m National Champion and an All-American in the 10000m, 3,000m, and 5,000m during the outdoor season.
Freshman Kendal Fisher, a pole vaulter from Canton, Ohio comes to Cincinnati after winning the OHSAA DI State Track and Field Championships with a personal best pole vault mark of 4.02-meters.
Redshirt senior- Fred Moudani joins UC as one of the top throwers in the country. He was the 2021 NJCAA indoor and outdoor shot put runner-up and a 2022 NCAA East Preliminary qualifier.
Graduate transfer Nyile Facey come's to UC as a top tier hurdler from High Point University. She has qualified for the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round in both the 100-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles for the past two years. She won the 2021 Big South 100-meter hurdles with a personal best 13.77 seconds.
