Cincinnati Remains In-State to Face Ohio on Tuesday

University of Cincinnati women's basketball remains in state to face Ohio inside Convocation Center on Tuesday night. Tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the matchup will be aired on ESPN+.

CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati women's basketball remains in-state to face Ohio inside Convocation Center on Tuesday night. Tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be aired on ESPN+.  

Tuesday will be the 23rd meeting between the in-state opponents. Cincinnati leads the all-time series 13-9, but trails 6-3 on the road. The two teams last played on Nov. 16, 2021, where Ohio defeated Cincinnati 73-62 inside Fifth Third Arena. The last two meetings are the first since Dec. 13, 1999, where the Bearcats earned a 75-74 home win.

Cincinnati fell 48-35 to Xavier on the road at Cintas Center last Friday. Junior guard Jillian Hayes finished with her fourth double-double of the season with a game-high 18 points and 11 rebounds. Hayes surpassed her season-high in free throws made and attempted, converting on 8-10 from the free throw line. She has now led the team in scoring in the last six games.

Senior guard Jada Scott finished with a season-high eight rebounds against the Musketeers in her first start since Charlotte on Nov. 26.

Cincinnati was active on the defensive end throughout the contest, recording a season-high 13 steals and six blocks. The Bearcats average 17.1 turnovers forced per game, which ranks fifth in the conference. Cincinnati has recorded 4.4. blocks per game, which stands second in the conference and 44th nationally.

The Ohio Bobcats are 2-5 overall, 0-0 in the MAC in their tenth season under head coach Bob Boldon. The Bobcats are led by sophomore guard Yaya Felder, who is averaging 17.1 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 28.6 minutes per game. She is one of two Bobcats who are averaging double digit scoring this season. Ohio has two players from Cincinnati on their roster in Kendall Hale and Jasmine Hale, who played at West Clemont High School.

OFF THE BENCH
Cincinnati has recorded 196 points, 19.6 points per game off its bench and is 4-1 when outscoring their opponent in bench points this season. Cincinnati received a season-high 29 points from its bench in their last win at North Carolina A&T on Dec. 1. The Bearcats have received at least 20 points from its bench in seven of 10 games. The Bearcats have had five double-digit scoring efforts off its bench this season - Clarissa Craig (3), Malea Williams (1) and A'riel Jackson (1). Cincinnati is outscoring their opponents 187-144 in bench points this season, including 112-61 over the last five games. Senior guard Caitlyn Wilson is leading the team with 6.1 points per game off the bench this season. (started less than half the games)
 
CLEANING UP THE OFFENSIVE GLASS
Cincinnati is averaging 14.2 offensive rebounds per game, which ranks 57th in the nation and fifth in the conference. Cincinnati has posted 118 second-chance points, 11.8 per game. The Bearcats have score double digit second-chance points in nine of 10 games. Cincinnati has recorded double-digit offensive rebounds in all 10 games. Junior guard Jillian Hayes is leading the team with 3.3 offensive rebounds per game.
 
MYA JACKSON LEADING AT POINT
Senior guard Mya Jackson is averaging 13.1 points, 4.0 assists, and 3.5 rebounds on 38.3 percent from the field in 36.7 minutes per game. She finished in double figures in the first nine contests before failing to do so at Xavier. The nine straight games in double figures are the most since I'ImarI Thomas did so in 10 straight games in 2020-21. Jackson recorded a career-high six assists to one turnover in the win at North Carolina A&T on Dec. 1. She also tied a career-high in both free throws made and attempts at North Carolina A&T on Dec. 1. As of Dec. 10, the 36.7 minutes per game ranks first in the conference and 15th nationally. Jackson played all 45 minutes in the 71-74 (OT) loss to Toledo on Nov. 16. The 45 minutes played are the most by a Bearcat since Akira Levy totaled 48 minutes in a 87-77 (2OT) win over North Carolina A&T on Dec. 19, 2021. She is the first Bearcat to play every minute of the game since IImar'I Thomas played all 40 minutes vs. South Florida on Dec. 22, 2020. Jackson ranks fifth with 4.0 assists per game. She has led the Bearcats in assists in seven of the first 10 games. Jackson ranks fifth in the conference with an 81.2 percent free-throw percentage as of Dec. 10.
