Bearcats Wrap Up Weekend at Gladstien Invitational

The University of Cincinnati men's and women's track and field teams closed out a successful weekend by winning four individual events at the Gladstein Invitational.

BLOOMINGTON, IND.— The University of Cincinnati men's and women's track and field teams closed out a successful weekend by winning four individual events at the Gladstein Invitational.
 
In addition to winning four events, the Bearcats also recorded 11 top-5 finishes throughout meet. 
 
Senior Giovanni Gutierrez dominated the men's shot put with a personal best mark of 18.75m to win the event. His throw is the second-best mark in program history and is a nationally ranked top-20 mark.
 
Graduate student Austin Edwards jumped his way into first place in the men's long jump with a mark of 7.28 meters. Edwards's leap is a season-best and is currently the fifth-best mark in the American Athletic Conference.
 
Senior Hannah Jackson had a great weekend inside the Gladstein Fieldhouse as she won the women's shot put with a throw of 14.54 meters. Jackson was also the highest-finishing collegiate athlete in the women's weight throw event as she finished second overall with a mark of 17.86 meters.

Senior Tyler Wirth came in first place in the men's 1 mile race as he crossed the finish line with a time of 4:06.18. 
 
In the men's weight throw, sophomore Korbin Spencer moved to sixth in the UC record book after recording a mark of 18.40 meters. Korbin's throw earned him second place overall in the event.
 
Both senior Carmen Licht and junior Roderick Flint both placed third in their respective events. Licht finished third in the women's 800-meter race with a time of 2:11.71, and Flint finished third in the men's high jump with a mark of 1.90 meters.

The Bearcats will be on the road again as the men's and women's teams will head to Clemson, S.C., for the Bob Pollock Invitational. The meet will begin on Friday, Jan. 27 and end on Saturday, Jan. 28.
