CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team announced the addition of walk-on Sara Watanabe to its 2023 class on Saturday.

"I am super excited to add Sara to next year's roster. We already have a highly touted class coming in and she only adds to the strength of it," head coach Eric Toth said. "Sara keeps getting better and better on the court. Her results over the last several months speak for themselves. I am usually not a fan of using the terms "Diamond in the Rough" or "Sleeper" as it pertains to these kids that enter our program from year to year, but if anyone aligns themselves to these terms it is Sara. I am confident Sara will develop herself into a very good Division I tennis player who impacts our program in a positive way."

Watanabe is rated a four-star recruit by TennisRecruiting.net, ranking 90th nationally and first in the state of Kentucky. She was a semi-finalist in the 2022 KHSAA state tournament for Covington Latin High School.
