CINCINNATI— University of Cincinnati women's high jumper senior Taylor Beard was named American Athletic Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.

Beard earned the distinction for her record-breaking performance at the Music City Challenge on Friday, Feb. 10. She has now been awarded the distinction twice in her career, and it marks her first since the week of Feb. 2, 2021.

"Taylor has done an amazing job of overcoming injury and surgery to not only return to her previous level of greatness, but she has elevated to one of the best jumpers in the NCAA," associate head coach Chris Wineberg said.

Beard led the way for the women's high jump squad at the Music City Challenge, winning the women's high jump with a mark of 1.88m/6'-2", breaking the American Athletic Conference indoor high jump record and the UC record.

Both records were previously held by former Bearcat Loretta Blaut (1.87m/6'-1.75'). The Winchester, Va., native now holds the top spot in the AAC and is tied for third in the NCAA.

This season, she has won the women's high jump event at three different meets and has nine high jump event wins in her career, including the 2021 indoor AAC women's high jump title.

Beard joins seniors Fred Moudani and Rylee Penn and sophomore Steven McElroy in earning athlete of the week honors this season.
