CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team travels to take on rival Miami (OH) inside Riverside Athletic Club on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. ET.
The Bearcats are looking for their second road win of the early slate after defeating Butler 4-3 in the season opener.
Cincinnati claimed the first four points to clinch a 4-3 win over Cleveland State last time out on Friday. The Bearcats secured the initial point of the match with wins on doubles courts one and three. The pair of sophomore Elizabeth Pendergast and redshirt junior Sofia Bruno took their match 6-2 at position three before the Vikings responded on court two to even the doubles score at one. Sophomore Callie Flanagan and redshirt junior Cassie McLay maintained their early lead to secure the doubles point with a 6-3 win on court one.
The Bearcats extended their margin over the Vikings to four with straight-set victories on the back three singles positions. Flanagan took 12 of the 14 points on court five to win 6-2, 6-0 before freshman Katie Ferguson claimed court six 6-2, 6-1. Redshirt junior Kelli Niehaus clinched the match with the third-consecutive straight-set win, 6-4, 6-2, on court four.
Miami (OH) enters the weekend 3-6 overall and 2-1 at home on the season. Miami (OH) hasn't played a match since Feb. 5, but are set to host Oakland on Saturday before welcoming Cincinnati on Sunday.
