Crye Wins 50 Breast, Leads UC at National Invitational Championship

Freshman Joleigh Crye won the 50-yard breast to lead the Cincinnati swimming and diving team at the CSCAA National Invitational Championship from Thursday through Saturday at the Beacon Health Aquatic Center.

ELKHART, Ind.  – Freshman Joleigh Crye won the 50-yard breast to lead the Cincinnati swimming and diving team at the CSCAA National Invitational Championship from Thursday through Saturday at the Beacon Health Aquatic Center.
 
Crye captured first with a time of 27.62.
 
She will compete in the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships in the 100-yard breast from March 15-18 at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tenn. 
 
Crye is the first women's swimmer to advance for the NCAA Championships for the Bearcats since Jacqueline Keire did so in 2017.
 
A total of 23 Bearcats (12 women, 11 men) competed at the NIC event.
 
In addition to Crye's victorious performance, junior Hunter Gubeno finished third in the 200-yard back (1:43.52), fourth in the 50-yard back (22.25) and fifth in the 100-yard back (47.40). His time in the 100 back is the second-fasted in UC history.
 
Freshman Lily Jones placed eighth in the 100-yard back, as well.
