Cincinnati opened action with stellar play in doubles, clinching the initial point for the second time in the last three matches. The Bearcats seized momentum with early leads at all three doubles positions before Xavier responded with a win on court two. The top tandem of sophomore Callie Flanagan and redshirt junior Cassie McLay claimed court one 6-4 to push the decision to court three.
Redshirt junior Sofia Bruno and sophomore Elizabeth Pendergast battled back to erase a small deficit and secured a seven-point tiebreaker on court three, 7-6 (5), to take the doubles point.
Xavier clinched the match with victories on the top four singles courts. Flanagan earned a win on court five in a third-set tiebreaker, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (2), while Ferguson posted a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 win on court six.
Cincinnati will be back in action when it hosts Northern Kentucky on Wednesday, March 29 at 3 p.m. ET.
