CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team raced past Northern Kentucky 6-1 at Trabert-Talbert Tennis Center on Wednesday.
Cincinnati improves to 6-11 overall, 0-2 in the AAC on the season.
The Bearcats made quick work in doubles by securing early leads at all three positions. The tandem of redshirt junior Sofia Bruno and sophomore Elizabeth Pendergast provided the Bearcats with the advantage with a 6-0 win on court three. Sophomore Callie Flanagan and redshirt junior Cassie McLay clinched the initial point on court one, 6-1.
Freshman Katie Ferguson and redshirt junior Kelli Niehaus were leading 4-3 on court two when the point was decided.
Cincinnati maintained momentum of the match with straight set wins on five of six singles courts. Ferguson secured 12 of 13 points on court six for a 6-1, 6-0 win. Santilli followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win on court three before Niehaus clinched the match win on court four, 6-1, 6-1.
Pendergast posted another convincing performance on the top singles court, taking her match 6-4, 6-2, before McLay clinched a 6-3, 6-3 win on court two.
The sweep marks the second of the season for the Bearcats.
Cincinnati closes out the homestand this weekend when it welcomes conference opponent Wichita State on Friday and DePaul for Senior Day on Saturday.
