LAST TIME OUT
Cincinnati pushed past a 5-1 deficit in a horizontal-rain affair at East Carolina to pull within 8-7 in the third, but the Pirates rallied with a 9-1 fourth-quarter to win 18-8.
CALLAGHAN SEEKING THE BIG 5-0
Freshman Camryn Callaghan has 49 goals on the season, which ranks sixth nationally. She earned her 11th hat trick Saturday over a 4:18 span to close the first half. She is third in school history, trailing only Monica Borzillo (61 in 2019) and Kylie Nause (63 in 2022). Callaghan also boasts an eight-goal game against Marquette, which joins James Madison's Isabella Peterson (Preseason All-American) for the most by an AAC performer this year.
JOY OFF THE BENCH
Sophomore Kylie Gioia has truly come into her own this season as not only a key reserve, but an offensive mainstay as well. She has 17 goals and 14 assists (up from 14 and six last year), boasting a .531 shot percentage as well. The assist numbers come as a nice surprise with the likely-season-long absence of 2022 leader Elizabeth Murphy. Gioia has 14 points over her last four games, including her two hat tricks on the year. The 12-9 win over Temple saw her record three goals and two assists.
ANOTHER "G" IN THE GAME
Ava Goeller has been a standout performer for the second-straight year in Clifton after her BIg South Freshman of the Year campaign at Radford in 2021. She is second on the team with 34 goals and 25 draw controls while committing 16 fewer turnovers to date from last season. She was surely chomping at the bit to begin AAC play, scoring career-highs of seven goals, and nine points overall, in the 19-6 thrashing of Vanderbilt.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN
Cincinnati is in the midst of a three-game road swing while looking to snap a three-game road losing streak as well. The Bearcats started 3-1 away from home, with its only loss in overtime at Ohio State on Feb. 28. Six of the team's seven wins in 2022 came on the road as well.
START AHEAD TO STAY AHEAD
Cincinnati is 8-0 this year when leading at the half and 0-5 when trailing. Its only tie came at Central Michigan, ultimately winning 9-4 after blanking the Chippewas in the final 46:56. The Bearcats' best goal differential is in the third at 43-22.
MLKVY CHASING MLKVY
Dani Mlkvy's 93 draw controls are second in school history, trailing only her sister, Sam, who had 97 in 2019. Her 6.6 per game ranks 15th nationally while leading the AAC, and she reached double-digits against Gardner-Webb, Robert Morris and Ohio State (career-high 14). She joins Goeller and senior Morgan Bates as team captains.
Alexis Rich, Sophia Finotti, Kimora Bailey and Grace Hirschmann have also contributed heavily on the defensive end all season as consistent starters.
SERIES HISTORY
Cincinnati is seeking its first win against the Cardinals in its 16th meeting, each year since the Bearcats' program began. Last year's meeting in Nippert Stadium saw the Bearcats open 2-0 in the first four minutes, but Louisville scored twice in the final 1:23 of the half to take an 11-7 intermission lead, ultimately outscoring UC 5-2 in the second half for a 16-9 win.
First-year UC assistant coach Jamie Redding was a First-Team All-BIG EAST honoree while helping the Cardinals to a 2014 Sweet 16 appearance, scoring 44 goals with 44 assists over her career. Avon native Grace Jenny also played her first three years for the Cardinals. Against ECU on Saturday, she scored her third goal of the season directly off her own draw control.
