CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati women's tennis placed four student-athletes on the 2023 College Sport Communicators Academic All-District Team, which recognized the nation's top student-athletes for their performance on and off the court.
The four student-athletes who received the honor were sophomore Callie Flanagan, sophomore Elizabeth Pendergast, redshirt junior Cassie McLay and redshirt senior Maria Santilli.
To qualify, student-athletes must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5, be a sophomore academically, have a year-in-residence at their current school and have appeared in at least 50 percent of the team's contests. All honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America Team ballot, where All-America selections will be announced on May 31.
Flanagan appeared in 21 of 22 matches and posted eight singles wins. She partnered with redshirt junior Sofia Bruno and McLay to compile eight doubles victories, seven of which came at the top position. A Nutrition and Dietetics major, Flanagan boasts a 3.81 grade point average and has earned a spot on the Dean's List each semester.
Pendergast saw action in all 22 matches and compiled eight singles wins at the top position. She teamed up with Bruno and McLay to total a team-high nine doubles victories, all of which came at the third position. Pendergast is a marketing major who has earned a 3.67 grade point average and has been named to the Dean's List each semester.
McLay played in all 22 matches and totaled six singles wins at the second position. She totaled eight doubles wins with Pendergast and Flanagan at the top position. An American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team honoree, McLay boasts a 3.72 grade point average as a neuroscience major.
Santilli competed in 21 of 22 matches, totaling six singles wins and two doubles victories. A three-time AAC All-Academic Team selection and 2021 Legion of Excellence honoree, Santilli has earned a Bachelor's in Accounting and a Master's in Business Administration – Accounting and currently boast 3.79 grade point average as she works on her third master's degree.
