ANN ARBOR, Mich.— The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team recorded a season-high 13 shots, but suffered a 1-0 road defeat to Michigan at U-M Soccer Stadium on Sunday.
"I am proud of our players," head coach Erica Demers said. "We said it before the game, it was not going to be about the result. It was going to be about the performance of us chipping away at growing our confidence."
Cincinnati moved to 1-3-1 on the year, while Michigan improved to 2-1-2.
The Bearcats generated multiple opportunities throughout the game as the team recorded 13 shots, four on goal, but could not find the back of the net. Junior forward Laura Zemberyova led Cincinnati with a season-high three shots.
Sophomore midfielder Sarah Kate Rath delivered the Bearcats' best look in the second half. She got free up the middle and put one on net in the 73rd minute but was denied by Michigan goalkeeper Stephanie Sparkowski.
Sparkowski finished the game with four saves.
Cincinnati went into the half down 1-0 despite outshooting Michigan 9-7. The nine shots tied the most in a half for the Bearcats this season.
Michigan's Sammi Wood flipped one over senior goalkeeper Anna Rexford in the 34th minute to break the scoreless tie.
The Bearcats best chance came in the first half off a corner kick from junior midfielder Fran Stables that redshirt senior foward Ellie Flower headed off the crossbar in the 26th minute.
Graduate student defender Ashley Barron played the full 90 for the third straight game. She has now recorded 5,858 minutes in her career, the seventh-most in program history. Barron leads the team in minutes played (442) this season.
Also playing every minute of the game was midfielder/defender Brooke Brown. This was the second time in her career and the first this season that she achieved the feat.
